Passover acknowledges the liberation of the Jewish people from slavery in Egypt. Passover is considered a time for reflection and gratitude including remembering the poverty and hardship of their ancestors. Passover encourages assistance for others currently struggling with poverty. Passover is considered a time to move towards justice and equality for all people.
Recognition of the liberation from slavery is observed with Matzah or unleavened bread which is eaten during Passover. Matzah is a humble bread usually of flour and water. A reminder of the hardships the enslaved endured.
