The Yaupon Holly was traditionally used by Native Americans and Euro-American colonists who made an infusion containing caffeine. This drink went by several different names, such as beloved drink or white drink among Native Americans and “Carolina tea”, or “South Seas tea” among colonists. Yaupon Holly is one of only two known plants endemic to North America producing caffeine.
